Indiana automobile history, 1890-1989 (bulk 1910-1940).

The collection contains Huffman's research notes for Indiana-produced autos, trucks, and motorcycles; correspondence with auto industry workers and auto enthusiasts; and extensive research on the Apperson, Haynes-Apperson, and Haynes automobiles. Materials include publications, histories, advertising, clippings, photographs, stock certificates, and parts and instruction manuals. The collection gives an excellent and detailed history of the over 500 autos manufactured in Indiana from the Black in 1891 to the Subaru and Isuzu in 1989.

A resident of Kokomo, Ind., Huffman was active with the Howard County Historical Society, and as an auto historian was active with the Pioneer Auto Club of Kokomo. Huffman originally published his INDIANA BUILT AUTOMOBILES in 1955. It has been updated three times, most recently in 1989.
